Modern Slavery Act 2015 - Compliance Statement 2025
Date 02/04/25
Review date 2/04/26
Introduction
The Sheridan Group is committed to promoting ethical practices across all its organizations, particularly concerning recruitment, operational procedures, and workforce behaviours. While only Sheridan Limited and M&Y Maintenance and Construction exceed the £4 million turnover threshold for compliance under the Modern Slavery Act 2015, this statement reflects our commitment to preventing, identifying, and reporting modern slavery and human trafficking across all Group organisations.
Organisational Structure
The Group comprises the following organisations:
• Sheridan group
• Sheridan Skips (NW)
• Sheridan Concrete
• Sheridan FM
• Sheridan Fire systems
With over 75 employees, the Group operates in England and is a Real Living Wage employer.
Business Activities
In addition to social housing provision, the Group offers homes for part ownership, outright sale, and related housing management services. Our services also include maintenance and construction, supported housing services, property letting, training and apprenticeships, career-based learning, and childcare. We strive to align with organisations that share our commitment to ethical operations. Our Social Value Investment Policy guides us in generating social returns from surplus cash reserves, fostering community cohesiveness and local economic resilience.
Supply Chains & Procurement
We do not engage with suppliers from countries identified as high-risk in the Global Slavery Index. Our procurement process, overseen by a dedicated Procurement Manager, emphasises value for money and collaborative relationships with suppliers, ensuring ethical practices are upheld. M&Y Maintenance & Construction utilises a Dynamic Purchasing System (DPS) to establish a pre-approved list of subcontractors and suppliers based on stringent criteria.
Risk Management and Due Diligence
To prevent and detect modern slavery and human trafficking, the Group implements several
policies including:
• Safeguarding Adults at Risk Policy
• Safeguarding Children at Risk Policy
• Speak Up Policy
• Anti-Fraud Policy
• Code of Conduct
• Financial Regulations (related to procurement and supply chain management)
• Recruitment and Selection Policy
Staff Awareness & Training
The Sheridan Group conducts thorough employment checks for new hires, ensuring eligibility to work in the UK and compliance with DBS checks for staff working with vulnerable customers. Our Speak Up Policy has been updated, and all staff receive annual awareness training to understand and report concerns. Specialised training sessions, particularly on modern slavery identification, are also extended to subcontractors on construction projects.
Ongoing Action
In the coming year, we will:
• Continue raising awareness, especially among staff working with vulnerable groups or in high-risk areas.
• Strengthen procurement activities to maximise social value and foster partnerships.
• Enhance supplier risk assessments to include cybersecurity and modern slavery compliance.
Sheridan will report any suspected or confirmed instances of modern slavery or human trafficking to the appropriate authorities.
